Your Home Away From Home

Our lodge is located one and one-half miles up the Iliamna River from its confluence with Iliamna Lake and three miles from the short piece of road linking Iliamna Lake with Cook Inlet. This has to be one of the most scenic areas in Alaska, with the high majestic Chigmit Mountains, glaciers, volcanoes, clear running streams, and hundreds of small lakes. Lake Iliamna is the largest lake in the state of Alaska.

Great Accomodations!

Each guest room has a twin and a double bed. The rooms are fully carpeted with a private bath and an unlimited supply of hot water--just what those aching muscles order after a day of battling fish.

Great Meals!

Good food is a must when spending all day in the out-of-doors, and at Guth's Lodge we take it seriously. We offer fresh hot breads, rolls, and cookies. Our expert kitchen staff will make sure you're comfortable and have any special dietary items you require. In the evening, kick back in the lounge and hear your fellow guests' wild tales of their day - and share your own! Meals are served family-style in our spacious dining room. All of our clients can attest to the great food! And it tastes twice as good after doing battle all day with feisty, plentiful Alaska fish!

We'll Take Good Care of You!

We realize the importance of comfort in Alaska's climate and for this reason, all boats except the small fishing skiffs are cabined and heated.  Hot water and coffee are readily available on all trips as a service to our guests.

We have planes to reach the out-of-the-way spots that are only accessible from the air.  In good weather you can't beat flight-seeing some of the Alaska scenery. Most Alaska visitors will never have the opportunity to see the real grandeur of the Alaska bush the way our clients can. Safety is always the number one priority at Guth's Lodge, and we may on occasion cancel flight-seeing and ocean fishing if we consider conditions unsafe.

A Little About Us

The Guths -- A Tradition Of Outdoor Recreation Of over 50 Years -- The Guth name has been synonymous with outdoor recreation, hunting and fishing since early in the '40s, when Howard and Doris Guth went into the outfitting business. They had a strong desire to provide a quality service for their guests. That tradition has been carried forward for three generations.

Norm was proud to be chosen, during the Carter administration, to guide President Carter and Interior Secretary Andrus down the Middle Fork of Idaho's Salmon River. Norm has spent a lifetime in his father's footsteps guiding hunters and fishermen and now, as his sons Marty and Merlin take the reins of the business, the family dedication to quality grows stronger. They, too, grew up in the business, helping their Dad. Their many years of combined experience guiding, boating and flying assure you a safe and successful trip. Norm's wife, Kaye, and Marty's wife, Deena, answer the phones and take reservations while the rest of the family are out with the guests.

The REEL FAST

The Reel Fast Our salt water transportation needs are fulfilled by our custom built, 40-foot, twin engine jet boat, the REEL FAST. Custom built to our specifications, the Reel Fast allows us to fish for halibut, salmon, and other salt water species in safety and comfort. With a 30-knot cruising speed, you'll be hauling in the big flat fish quickly without the 3 to 4 hour cruise that is normal from the other side of Cook Inlet. All ocean salt water gear is provided including the bait and tackle. But feel free to bring your favorite gear if you have a favorite rod that you just can't fish without.
Because the salt water port we operate from is high-tide access only, you will have a 12-hour fishing opportunity while fishing within a few miles of the St. Augustine volcano. When you hook into that big barn-door halibut, we'd bet that volcano could blow and you wouldn't notice!

From the jet boats on Lake Iliamna, to the skiffs on the Nushugak and Iliamna Rivers, to the planes...you will experience it all!
